Pyrethrum was
introduced in Kashmir from Europe in the
late 1837s. It started as a large-scale crop, but today it is widely cultivated
in the South Kashmir by small-scale farmers. Kashmir produces about 36% of the world supply. The
success of pyrethrum cultivation is attributed to good weather conditions.
