plant in the family Elaeagnaceae, native to the cold-temperate regions of Europe and Asia.

In Kashmir is found  at Anantnag, Phalgham, Warwan,Dawar, Ladakh,Kargil, Sonmarag and Leh.DRDO  Field R&D Lab has developed Leh berry tea,fruits made into antioxidant rich Leh berry juice.

It is a spiny deciduous shrub. The plant is used in the food and cosmetics industries, in traditional medicine, as animal fodder, and for ecological purposes. In India mostly it is found in high altitude cold arid condition of Ladakh (Kargil and Leh, Baramulla,Anantnag, Kishtwar) Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. All parts of the plants viz berries, leaves, stem, seeds or pulp oil contains many bio-active compounds.
