Elderberry trees are deciduous shrubs or small trees that can grow up to 20 feet tall and wide. They are a variety of the Sambucus tree, with the European elder (Sambucus nigra) being the most common. Elderberry trees grow in the warmer parts of Europe, Asia, Kashmir, China, Afghanistan, North America, and Northern Africa.
